Can’t reach the far side of the hollow section?
The INDEX hollow section anchor allows a mechanical connection to hollow steel sections to be installed from one side. No nut needs to be placed inside the section, and on-site welding can be avoided, provided the technical conditions of the connection allow it.
A solution where the far side is out of reach
A conventional through-bolted connection requires access to both sides of the structure. On-site welding, in turn, requires suitable equipment, a suitable working environment and a qualified specialist, and it can damage painted or hot-dip galvanised surfaces.
The INDEX hollow section anchor is inserted through the pre-drilled hole. On tightening, its inner part spreads open on the far side of the section and clamps tightly against the wall. Insertion, counter-holding and tightening can all be carried out from the same side.

What do you gain during installation?
- The connection can be installed from the accessible side.
- No distortion or discolouration caused by welding heat input.
- The zinc coating around the connection does not burn off.
- Post-weld cleaning, grinding and corrosion-protection repairs can be omitted.
- It can also be used to extend existing steel structures, provided the technical conditions are met.
A system qualified for structural applications.
The INDEX hollow section anchor is a fixing system with an ETA. Under the conditions defined in the assessment, it can be used for connections subject to static and quasi-static loads.
The product is available in sizes M6–M20.
The right size must always be selected on the basis of the load, the base material, the wall thickness and the manufacturer’s technical documentation. For structural design, the ETA and the designer’s specifications apply.

Off to the shop!Where it is worth considering
The hollow section anchor can be useful wherever another structural or non-structural element has to be fixed to a hollow steel section but the far side of the section is not accessible.
- constructing or converting steel structures and halls;
- retrofitted mezzanines, metal staircases and suspended walkways;
- supporting structures for plant rooms and industrial equipment;
- cable and pipe supports;
- subsequent extension of painted or hot-dip galvanised structures.
Installation in three steps
For a secure connection, use the hole diameter, anchor size and tightening torque specified by the manufacturer, taking into account the available internal space.
When is this solution not the right choice?
The hollow section anchor does not replace every welded or through-bolted connection. Nor is it ideal for a temporary structure that has to be completely dismantled on a regular basis, because
the bolt can be removed, but the expanded anchor body remains in the section.
Suitability for a specific application must be assessed on the basis of the design requirements and the manufacturer’s documentation.
