We have already fitted everything properly with our articles, but we have not yet fitted anything truly beautiful – even though that is possible too with NONOX fasteners – and that is what we are going to explore a little now.
Among the great advantages of NONOX fasteners are
- On the one hand, that they are weather-resistant, that is, they can be used outdoors excellently too, and the rust is guaranteed not to run, if we observe the basic assembly technologies.
- On the other hand, that they can be polished and brushed, that is, they can be made to look however the overall effect requires;
- Their quality is excellent, you will not be disappointed in them! They are a joy to work with and they are beautiful too!
Let us look at some examples:
01FITTING A SIGN
The sign can be stainless steel, bronze, marble, glass, wood or another exciting material.
Ingredients, if we fit it with eye-catching fasteners:
- 2-4 pcs polished cap nuts (DIN 1587);
- The same number of polished washers (a narrow washer is right for hard material, a wide one for soft);
- Threaded rod, which is not necessarily visible, but can be cut to size really neatly (DIN 975);
- or possibly a grub screw (e.g. DIN 913 or 914 etc., which are easier to fit because of their drive);
- A drive-in wedge anchor can go into the wall, but only if it goes into stone or concrete;
- As a spacer, NONOX stainless or acid-resistant tube is one of the happiest choices, or the neat internally threaded coupling nut (IFI 128) available from us, which may also be suitable for the purpose;
- and a pinch of OKS 250 anti-seize paste on the threads.
And if we want a more discreet solution:
- With a slight protrusion we can fit them with slotted (A9056) or cross-recess (A9056-2) flat decorative-head screws. No washer is needed, because the heads of these screws are wide enough, so on their own they may be suitable for clamping glass, mirror or Perspex too;
- We can also consider countersunk heads (sf) (DIN 963, DIN 964, DIN 7991, I 14581), of which only the drive is visible after fitting (see the images below!), the rest disappearing into the surface. If a slight protrusion is called for after all, raised countersunk head (DIN 965, DIN 966) screws are well suited to that. The visible drives of the two versions (countersunk head / raised countersunk head) can be chosen from the following basic variations:
Countersunk or raised countersunk head screws go well with glass, mirror or Perspex surfaces too, but in such cases it is worth fitting them with a decorative washer, which surrounds the screw head like a socket while distributing the load over an enlarged surface. With these it is an important consideration that, in the case of brittle glass or Perspex, it is worth preparing holes somewhat larger than the shank diameter, thereby compensating for the small inaccuracies that occur during on-site fitting, and furthermore eliminating the cracks arising from unwanted contact between the screw shank and the wall of the holes. The wide decorative washer (DIN 6319d) covers larger-diameter holes well too.
Aesthetic and security considerations are easy to combine where that is needed
These include, among others, public signs, electrical and telecommunications distribution cabinets, drain or other outdoor covers, objects placed on public transport vehicles and at stops, etc.
OUR SECURITY FASTENERS
Instead of cap nuts, on the one hand there are
- the security shear nuts (A 28), from which the hexagonal driving head breaks off during tightening, leaving only a cone, which can no longer be removed with either an open-ended spanner or pliers. (If possible, do not leave the screw shank longer by more than +1 mm than the cone is able to accommodate);
- on the other hand another kind of security nut, the so-called “odd pair”, which can only be fitted and removed together with its mate; but after tightening, the fitter pockets the mate, and the part left behind can no longer be removed without it;
- We do not recommend grub screws for these, only pieces of threaded rod (DIN 975), or any version where there is no drive on the screw shank.
Instead of flat decorative-head screws we recommend
- “one-way”, “un-unscrewable” screws, which can only be driven in, and once we have driven one in, nobody will get it out of there again;
- or the dome head snake-eye security screws, which need a special key that not many people run around with;
- To replace countersunk head screws, the following security screws can be considered:
- Countersunk head, snake-eye screws;
- Or countersunk head pin-hex and pin-Torx screws too, which cannot be fitted with conventional L keys.
02VISIBLE FIXING OF LARGER METAL, WOOD-PANEL OR LEATHER COVERINGS
For sheet-metal work, solid rivets look good as a repeating motif, be they round head (DIN 660), countersunk (DIN 661) or raised countersunk head;
For wood and leather, wide, flat, slightly domed head screws (e.g. A 7505-3) are suitable, but care must be taken that leather rucks up and paintwork is eaten away when tightened harder than necessary, so leather should be fitted with a washer or a leather strip, and painted, varnished wood with very gentle tightening, (or every joint must be hidden, which, however, falls outside the topic of our article…)
03VISIBLE WIRE ROPES

And these are spreading more and more in the abundant supply of fashion jewellery, where these materials likewise open up new trends. Why? Because it is not the value of their base material but the brand, the design and their colour scheme that makes them attractive. Combined with beads, inventive pendants and leathers, they look very good not only on wrists, in fabric, but on bags and clothes too.
04CHAINS AS DESIGN ELEMENTS – THE CHAIN IS THE SYMBOL OF CAPTIVITY, AND THE BROKEN CHAIN THAT OF FREEDOM
- Where captivity is spoken of, the value of freedom appears magnified, and all these are timeless concepts that are able to stir emotions in people at any time.
- The larger the links of the chain, the more imposing it is. Bright NONOX acid-resistant chains draw the eye with the repeating curves of their forms, which is why they fit well among the atmosphere-setting solutions of certain bars and restaurants.
NONOX chains- At the same time, a piece of chain also evokes the atmosphere of industry, so in an industrial milieu even a piece of heavy chain on the floor or in a corner looks superb.
- It is not by chance that it is fashionable to replace the vertical downpipe with a chain and lead the water onto a gravel bed, because it looks very good and is practical besides. For outdoor purposes the acid-resistant NONOX chain is the most suitable.
- The stretch of chains serving a decorative function is completely negligible, so they are suitable for suspending handsome planters, small and large plants and even shelves; but we can also design garden contrivances with them, from the fence to plant climbers.
