Self-drilling bi-metal*, NONOX self-tapping screw, for thin sheets

Drilling, thread forming and fastening in one step with a stainless self-tapping screw — even into stainless sheet!

The bi-metal NONOX self-tapping screws are popular for good reason: they let you fasten things to thin sheets simply and securely. They are ideal, for example, where trapezoidal sheets overlap and have to be fixed.

*The bi-metal NONOX self-tapping screw has an A2 stainless steel body and a hardened steel drill point. The hardened carbon steel point and the stainless steel body are joined by friction welding. The parts to be joined are pressed together and rotated in opposite directions, which melts the materials and welds them together. The bond formed between the different materials this way is perfectly strong and durable.

Self-tapping screws with a self-drilling point have been available for a long time. They too can be driven without pre-drilling, but driving them takes real effort. As they go in they behave like a drill and cut the material, so sheet particles are removed, reducing the material’s grip — which means that more fixing points are needed to reach the required strength…

Conventional stainless self-drilling self-tapping screws can only be driven safely into sheets softer than their own material. The bi-metal NONOX self-tapping screws, by contrast, are fully usable in surface-treated steel or stainless steel sheets as well.

The bi-metal NONOX self-tapping screws need no self-drilling point: the needle-sharp hardened steel point penetrates the sheets easily even without a cutting edge, like a knife through butter. The hardened point forms the thread in the sheet without removing any chips, and the NONOX stainless screw body then seats in it easily and tightly. In certain fields of application it can be important that driving takes place without removing material.

Bi-metal screw data

Measurements show that screws fixed this way have 50% greater holding force, so fewer fixing points are needed, which cuts not only the costs but also the time spent on the job.

Bi-metal screw profile
  • NONOX stainless steel conical spring washer with a vulcanised-on EPDM sealing ring, which provides a watertight fixing.
  • The washer is captive.
  • Special coating for easier driving.
  • Always test the screw before starting series assembly!
