# The self-drilling bi-metal screw that saves you time and money

## **What is a bi-metal self-drilling screw, and why is it worth using?**

The bi-metal screw is a modern fastening technology solution that combines the advantages of two different metals. In our case a hardened carbon steel tip and a stainless steel screw body are welded together to form a self-drilling screw. This cleverly designed combination makes it possible for drilling and fastening to happen in a single operation, while corrosion resistance is also retained.

## **Why is a stainless steel self-drilling screw not enough for the job?**

Self-drilling screws made of stainless steel resist corrosion excellently, outdoors too, but they have one serious drawback: they cannot be hardened, so into harder materials (steel, for example) they can be driven only with difficulty or not at all without pre-drilling – only into materials softer than themselves, e.g. aluminium. And pre-drilling is not only time-consuming, it also calls for more tools and more operations.

**How does the NONOX bi-metal self-drilling screw work?**

The genius of the NONOX bi-metal self-drilling screw lies in its construction:

- Hardened carbon steel tip: it works as a drill point – on some variants as a thread cutter – penetrating hard materials such as steel sheets with ease – without separate pre-drilling — and disappears into the material.
- Stainless steel body: once the tip has broken through, the body of the screw follows, ensuring a strong and durable fixing while providing maximum corrosion resistance at the surface.

The bi-metal screw is thereby able to drill and fasten in a single operation, **resulting in a considerable saving of time.**

**The advantages of the bi-metal screw at a glance**

- Faster assembly: no pre-drilling needed – drilling and fastening happen in one step.![](https://menet-trend.hu/wp-content/uploads/menet-trend/bi-metal-onfuro-csavarok-2.jpg)
- Less tool wear: no tool change is needed, which increases the service life of the tools.
- Excellent weather resistance: the stainless body makes it ideal in outdoor, damp, salty or chemically exposed environments too.
- Cost-effective solution: fewer operations, less scope for error, less outlay.

Where can we use NONOX bi-metal screws?

We use bi-metal screws where fast assembly and long-term corrosion resistance are needed. Typical fields of application:

- Outdoor metal structures
- Roof and façade claddings
- Industrial environments exposed to corrosion
- Coastal (salt-air) regions
